Asahi Art Festival

Asahi Art Festival (AAF) is a series of art events that Asahi Beer began in 2002 in collaboration with art NPOs and citizens' groups across Japan.  As "an art festival organized by the people,"  AAF has planned and executed various projects in crossover genres in many places every summer, exploring ways to make art open to the public and to use art to make their communities more attractive.  Old warehouse and abandoned houses have become cafes and art centers for local residents.  Art inspired by the memory of the community has created interactions beyond generations of people.  The AAF has been exploring art projects connecting people to people and strengthening community awareness.

We would like to continue to explore all genres of art expressions and activities, including visual art, music, architecture, dance, performance, theatre, video, education, as well as various events such as exhibitions, concerts, workshops, symposium, tours, and cafes, involving all people of their respective communities. AAF aims to be a bridge between art and society, through many unique activities.

Key words = Future, Citizen, and Local Communities
"Citizens" are the main force to plan and organize the AAF.  The power of art, which creates future culture, allows people to rediscover the charms of each community as the community is reconstructed.

Attention to Local Resources
The festival "producers", citizens in local communities, rediscover local resources (such as the natural environment, vacant warehouses and houses, history and memory of the communities, backstreets) and show them through various expressions in many genres.

Emphasis on Communication
Not focusing on the completed works, AAF emphasizes what happens in the process of creating something, including human exchanges through process-oriented projects such as interactive works, town exploration, workshops, and cafes.

Join us at the Asahi Art Festival!  We create new culture in collaboration with people, rediscovering the charms in communities.
